No Judge Recusal Over Donations: Wis. High Court

Law360, New York (October 29, 2009, 7:08 PM EDT) -- The Wisconsin Supreme Court has adopted new rules allowing judges to preside over cases with parties or lawyers who donated to their judicial election campaigns, rejecting calls to mandate recusals in cases involving campaign contributors.

In a 4-3 decision Wednesday the high court adopted two similar rules posed by two business groups specifying that parties' or their lawyers' past contributions to a judicial election by themselves won't necessitate that judge's recusal.
