AEP Asked To Conduct Safety Tests At Coal Ash Site

Law360, New York (October 30, 2009, 6:02 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has raised questions about the safety of a coal ash impoundment at American Electric Power Co.’s Philip Sporn power plant in West Virginia, calling on the energy company to perform further testing at the site.

The agency said Thursday that AEP will need to conduct additional safety tests to ensure the structural stability of the impoundment at the coal-fired power plant, located along the Ohio River in the northwestern portion of the state.
