E.U. Mulls Law To Regulate Royalties Collection

Law360, New York (April 19, 2004, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The European Commission is considering legislation that would regulate and streamline copyright royalty collection across Europe, the European Union’s executive body said Monday.

“Community legislation on the collective management of rights, and particularly on the governance of collecting societies, would be highly desirable,” the Commission concluded in a paper released Monday.

Among the measures considered are rules on the supervision of rights societies as well as a single EU copyright license, the Commission said.
