NHTSA Rebukes Toyota For 'Inaccurate' Press Release

Law360, New York (November 4, 2009, 6:20 PM EST) -- The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration chastised Toyota Motor Corp. on Wednesday for publicizing “inaccurate and misleading” information concerning a defect in the floor mats of roughly 3.8 million vehicles that can cause accelerator pedals to stick.

In a statement Monday, Toyota said federal officials had investigated the matter and concluded that “no defect exists in vehicles in which the driver's floor mat is compatible with the vehicle and properly secured."
