Limited Protectionism Stems From Crisis: EC Report

Law360, New York (November 6, 2009, 3:41 PM EST) -- Though the economic downturn has not led as many countries to enact protectionist trade measures as the European Union had feared, a new monitoring report from regulators issued Friday still showed that the major trade partners of the 27-member bloc have put more than 220 possibly restrictive policies into place over the last year.

The European Commission's report showed a range of restrictive measures, including import bans, tariff increases and "buy national" policies, leading the regulator to call for more open trade despite the economic climate....
