Samsung Microwaves Yanked Over Shock Hazard

Law360, New York (November 6, 2009, 5:17 PM EST) -- Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. said Friday it had voluntarily pulled about 43,000 over-the-range microwave ovens from shelves due to a defect in some models that can potentially create a shock hazard.

The company said the products at issue were imported by Ridgefield Park, N.J.-based Samsung Electronics America Inc., and that it was conducting the recall in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Samsung said that in some units, a capacitor may have been inadvertently put in an incorrect location.
