Legal Job Losses Increased In October

Law360, New York (November 6, 2009, 6:31 PM EST) -- The legal sector was not immune from October's grim unemployment numbers, shedding 5,800 jobs last month.

As the national unemployment rate rose to 10.2 percent with 190,000 jobs lost, legal job losses rose as well, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics' monthly report on jobs.

The October numbers were greatly increased from September's losses of 2,000 jobs, after adjusting to account for seasonal changes in unemployment patterns. Summer associate programs typically end in September, leading to a higher than usual decline in that month....
