Hypertension Patients Join Feud Over Pfizer’s Norvasc

Law360, New York (November 10, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- In a move that highlights the growing debate over the balance between the rights of poor nations and those of drug patent holders, a group of patients said on Friday it plans to intervene in Pfizer Inc.’s ongoing legal battle to protect its blockbuster hypertension treatment Norvasc in the Philippines.

Marvic Leonen, legal counsel for the 10 patients, said the group will appeal to the Makati Regional Trial Court to allow the government, through its trading arm Philippine International Trading Corp., to implement a parallel importation...
