South Africa Pares Down BMW Antitrust Complaint

Law360, New York (November 11, 2009, 5:13 PM EST) -- South African competition authorities have dropped claims that BMW South Africa Ltd. violated the country's antitrust laws by abusing its market dominance, though allegations that the company fixed prices remain.

The country's Competition Commission withdrew its accusation that the Bayerische Motoren Werke AG unit illegally set up exclusive territories that franchised dealers could not compete in and actively sought to keep the dealers out of those areas, and the South African Competition Tribunal signed off on that move Wednesday, the body said in a statement....
