EU Approves EDF-Segebel Deal With Divestitures

Law360, New York (November 12, 2009, 4:31 PM EST) -- The European Commission has given the green light to Electricite de France International SA’s proposed acquisition of Segebel SA, which controls a majority of the second-largest electricity operator in Belgium.

The E.U.’s competition watchdog approved the deal Thursday but will require EDF to divest the assets of one of its companies overseeing the development of one of EDF’s planned power stations in Belgium.

Segebel’s only asset is a 51 percent stake in SPE SA, Belgium’s second largest electricity operator, the EC said.
