Mass. Gov. Implements New Utility Oversight Law

Law360, New York (November 13, 2009, 5:07 PM EST) -- On the heels of a Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities order faulting a utility company for its service failures during a December 2008 ice storm, Gov. Deval Patrick has enacted a new utility oversight law aimed at protecting consumers against prolonged power failures following major storms.

Patrick on Thursday signed the new legislation assigning regulators additional powers over utility companies during emergencies while codifying the existing storm plan requirements for these companies.
