Cognis Fights Oxiteno Bid To Add Fatty Alcohols To GSP

Law360, New York (November 16, 2009, 11:55 AM EST) -- Multinational chemical company Cognis Corp. has asked the U.S. International Trade Commission not to add fatty alcohols to the Generalized System of Preferences, opposing a petition by Brazilian rival Oxiteno SA.

In a letter filed with the ITC on Friday, Cognis said that adding fatty alcohols to the GSP β€” a program that provides preferential duty-free entry for products from designated beneficiary countries and territories in order to promote economic growth in the developing world β€” would harm U.S. fatty alcohol producers.
