South Korea Protests Japan's Import Ban On Samsung Plasma Displays

Law360, New York (April 22, 2004, 12:00 AM EDT) -- South Korea has formally protested Japan’s ban on imports of Samsung SDI's plasma display panel screens, as patent litigation between Samsung and Fujitsu threatens to escalate to a trade dispute between the two countries.

South Korean Commerce, Industry and Energy Minister Lee Hee-Beom delivered a complaint to the Japanese ambassador in Seoul, Toshiyuki Takana, urging Japan to "reconsider" the import ban, officials said.

The South Korean government threatened reprisals, suggesting the matter could escalate into a trade dispute.
