Domestic Partner Benefits Bill Advances In House

Law360, New York (November 19, 2009, 1:26 PM EST) -- The U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Government Reform has voted to send forward legislation that would extend key spousal benefits to the same-sex domestic partners of current and former federal employees.

Following extensive debate on Wednesday, the House committee voted 23-12 along party lines to favorably report the amended Domestic Partnership Benefits and Obligations Act of 2009, sponsored by Reps. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-Fla., sending the bill to the full House for final passage.
