Senate OKs Controversial 7th Circ. Nominee Hamilton

Law360, New York (November 19, 2009, 4:41 PM EST) -- The U.S. Senate on Thursday voted to send former District Judge David Hamilton to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, approving President Barack Obama's controversial nominee in a 59-39 vote.

Hamilton, nominated by Obama in March, previously served as chief judge in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana. His confirmation did not come easily, with Republican leaders and activist groups voicing strong opposition.
