Sanofi-Aventis Warns Of Norpramin Heart Attack Risk

Law360, New York (December 3, 2009, 6:16 PM EST) -- Sanofi-Aventis SA has sent a warning to doctors that they should be careful when prescribing the company's antidepressant Norpramin, saying it can cause sudden, fatal heart attacks in patients with irregular heartbeats.

The new cautionary letter about the desipramine hydrochloride tablets was issued Wednesday by the drugmaker in coordination with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Sanofi-Aventis issued a general warning that psychiatric health care professionals should use extreme caution when prescribing Norpramin to patients with a family history of sudden death or cardiac disturbances, according...
