British Lawyers Hit Out At 'Derisory' Whiplash Tariffs

Law360, London (April 23, 2021, 2:35 PM BST) -- A British trade body for claimant law firms has hit out against the government's new tariffs for personal injury compensation, saying that payouts had been lowered to "derisory" levels.

The Association of Personal Injury Lawyers said on Friday that the changes, part of a legal shakeup of how whiplash injuries are treated by the courts, only stand to benefit the insurance industry.

The tariffs are a central plank of the changes in the Civil Liability Act 2018 and establish new fixed sums of compensation for whiplash injuries sustained in road accidents.
