BASF Lodges Summons In CIT Over Chemical Tariffs

Law360, New York (December 10, 2009, 7:22 PM EST) -- BASF Corp. has filed a summons in the U.S. Court of International Trade challenging tariff rates on three types of carotenoid chemicals, as the German chemical giant waits out a previously filed test case.

The primary carotenoid at issue — beta-carotene, imported as the BASF product Betavit — carries an 8.5 percent ad valorem rate when it should be free, BASF contends.
