White House Will Enter Trans-Pacific Trade Talks

Law360, New York (December 15, 2009, 1:23 PM EST) -- U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk said the government will participate in negotiations for a broad-based regional Asia-Pacific trade agreement in hopes of creating an integrated regional economic platform and expanding the international market for U.S. exports.

Kirk notified Congress on Monday that the USTR will participate in the first round of formal talks for the Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership Agreement, or TPP, scheduled for March 2010 and already has begun intense consultations with lawmakers and American stakeholders to develop objectives for participation.
