WTO Panel To Probe Chinese Export Restrictions

Law360, New York (December 22, 2009, 4:46 PM EST) -- The World Trade Organization has acceded to requests from the U.S., the European Union and Mexico to form a dispute settlement panel to examine complaints that China is restricting exports of raw materials, such as zinc and silicon metal, through various trade measures.

In a meeting Monday, the WTO's dispute settlement body agreed to form the panel in response to the countries' second request. The move comes after the body first deferred the request at a Nov. 19 meeting.
