EPA Adopts Rule To Curb Air Pollution From Ships

Law360, New York (December 22, 2009, 5:59 PM EST) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has finalized a new rule aimed at curbing air pollution from large U.S.-flagged ships, a regulation the agency says harmonizes U.S. requirements with international standards and will lead to better air quality throughout the country.

The rule sets new engine and fuel standards for the ships, the latest action in the EPA's decade-long effort to reduce pollution from diesel engines under the National Clean Diesel Campaign.
