SC Court Strikes Tort Claims Over Ford Defects

Law360, New York (December 23, 2009, 4:06 PM EST) -- The high court in South Carolina has ruled that the owners of two Ford pickup trucks that allegedly caught fire as a result of defects may not pursue tort claims against the automaker on the grounds that such claims are barred by the economic loss rule, as only the vehicles were harmed.

The State of South Carolina Supreme Court issued a ruling on Monday affirming the holdings of lower courts, which struck the tort claims from the suits.
