ITC Takes On Complaint Over BlackBerry Data System

Law360, New York (January 5, 2010, 2:02 PM EST) -- The U.S. International Trade Commission has decided to take up a complaint accusing Research In Motion Ltd.'s BlackBerry of incorporating an authentication system that infringes a patent owned by Prism Technologies LLC.

The ITC announced Dec. 30 it planned to investigate whether RIM's popular smartphone and related software infringe Prism-held U.S. Patent Number 7,290,288, which the parties have also been litigating in federal court.
