Gateway, In Counter-Strike, Sues Hewlett-Packard Over Patents

Law360, New York (May 11, 2004, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Gateway has fired a legal salvo in the mounting patent battle between two of the world’s top computer maker, suing rival Hewlett-Packard Co. for infringement of five of its patents.

In its suit filed Monday in U.S. District Court in San Diego, Gateway seeks unspecified damages and asks that all charges lodged by HP be dismissed.

The move comes six weeks after HP filed a similar lawsuit against Gateway, alleging that its rival violated six patents on technologies such as laptop hinges, keyboards that require passwords...
