New USPTO Programs For Reducing Patent Pendency

Law360, New York (January 20, 2010, 3:59 PM EST) -- The United States Patent and Trademark Office recently introduced three new initiatives to reduce the pendency of certain patent applications. Two of these initiatives allow patent applications to obtain an earlier examination, which is particularly useful for applications pending in technology areas with large backlogs.

The third initiative is directed toward encouraging examiner communication with applicants before mailing of the first office action, thereby speeding up the overall examination process.
