US Challenges Philippines' Taxes On Spirits In WTO

Law360, New York (January 14, 2010, 6:57 PM EST) -- The United States has filed a challenge with the World Trade Organization to Philippine excise taxes on distilled spirits that it says discriminate against U.S.-made brands.

U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk announced Thursday his office is requesting WTO dispute consultations with the Philippines regarding excise taxes on imported distilled spirits such as whiskey, brandy, gin, vodka and tequila.
