WTO Chief Urges Unity Between Human Rights, Trade

Law360, New York (January 15, 2010, 4:50 PM EST) -- World Trade Organization Director-General Pascal Lamy has called for a “mindset change” that would align trade and human rights, and "institutionalize the relations" between the two communities.

Lamy offered the remarks in a speech Wednesday before a human rights colloquium in Geneva organized by the International Council on Human Rights and Realizing Rights, a Swiss nonprofit group.

International bodies must work together to “institutionalize the relations between the trade and human rights communities,” he said.
