EU Approves Agilent-Varian Merger With Divestitures

Law360, New York (January 21, 2010, 6:22 PM EST) -- The European Commission gave the green light to Agilent Technologies Inc.'s $1.5 billion acquisition of Varian Inc. on Thursday, but not without requiring Agilent to sell off one business and Varian to divest three.

The approval makes the Federal Trade Commission the last major regulator that still needs to sign off on the deal before Agilent can close its offer for the scientific instrument supplier.
