Jury Pounds Attransco With $10M Asbestos Award

Law360, New York (January 28, 2010, 8:09 AM EST) -- A Baltimore jury has awarded the terminally ill son of a merchant marine roughly $10 million, finding that Attransco Inc. failed to properly protect its workers and their families from the asbestos in its tankers.

Concluding a 10-day trial, the jury handed down the verdict Tuesday in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City, holding that Attransco failed to take steps that could have prevented plaintiff Leroy Conway Jr.’s childhood exposure to the asbestos particles that caked his father’s work clothes, according to Waters & Kraus LLP,...
