UK Energy Watchdog To Revamp Merger Policy

Law360, New York (February 2, 2010, 12:37 PM EST) -- The U.K.'s Office of Gas and Electricity Markets said Tuesday it will suspend its energy network merger policy in order to consider how potential mergers should be treated in the future, saying the review is crucial given a reduction in the number of independent groupings in the power distribution sector.

While the review — which will cover mergers within and across the distribution and transmission sectors for gas and electricity — is pending, the agency said it will consider mergers on a case-by-case basis.
