China Sees Major Jump In Domestic Patent Filings

Law360, New York (February 3, 2010, 1:53 PM EST) -- China has experienced a jump in patent applications, and in particular a surge in domestic filings, with 90 percent of applications originating within the country in 2009, Chinese intellectual property officials said Wednesday.

According to China's State Intellectual Property Office, China received more than 976,000 patent applications in 2009, up nearly 18 percent from the previous year, while the number of domestic patent filings increased 22 percent from 2008.
