Court Blocks Teva's Bid To Sell Generic Lipitor

Law360 (December 8, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- A Canadian court has granted Pfizer Inc.’s application for an order barring a subsidiary of Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. from selling a generic version of Pfizer’s blockbuster anti-cholesterol drug Lipitor in Canada until the Canadian patent covering Lipitor expires.

The ruling, handed down Thursday by the Canadian Federal Court in Toronto, upholds Pfizer’s exclusive rights to sell Lipitor in Canada until July 19, 2010, and thwarts Novopharm Ltd.’s attempt to enter the market for atorvastatin calcium, Lipitor’s active ingredient.
