Skeptical Congress Approves FDA Chief

Law360 (December 8, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- Dr. Andrew von Eschenbach was confirmed as the head of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Thursday, but the confirmation process was surely not the last challenge he will face on Capitol Hill.

Von Eschenbach, 65, has taken control of the FDA as the agency heads into a year that promises to be filled with examination and, possibly, change. One of the strongest opponents to his confirmation is the man leading the charge to scrutinize the FDA, Senate Finance Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa).
