Murphy Oil Found Liable For Air Pollution At La. Refinery

Law360, New York (February 5, 2010, 5:18 PM EST) -- A federal judge has found that Murphy Oil USA Inc. broke federal clean air laws 21 times by exceeding emission limits under state permits for an oil refinery in Meraux, La., between 2004 and 2009.

In a summary judgment ruling, Judge Sarah S. Vance of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana on Wednesday held that the oil company was liable for Clean Air Act violations on 21 occasions and cleared the company from liability related to three incidents.
