Contract Attys Sitting Pretty As Associates Deferred

By Liz McKenzie (February 9, 2010, 2:58 PM EST) -- With the news that Mintz Levin Cohn Ferris Glovsky and Popeo PC is scaling back 2010 associate start dates to 2012, some speculate that law firms may increasingly dole out lower-level work to contract attorneys instead of associates.

Mintz Levin representative Gina Addis on Friday confirmed the start date for Mintz Levin's 2010 associates.

"When offers were extended to these incoming associates, they were told that a start date had not been set, but that it would be deferred," Addis explained. "We recently have notified each of them that they will be starting in January 2012."
