EU Calls For Trade Ban On Endangered Tuna, Bears

Law360, New York (February 11, 2010, 1:17 PM EST) -- The European Parliament expressed support on Wednesday for a ban on the trade in endangered species including bluefin tuna and polar bears, as well as all products derived from the creatures.

Members of the Parliament simultaneously called for financial compensation for the tuna fishing sector that would be affected by the proposed ban.

Parliament would also like to maintain the ban on trade in African elephants, and forbid any trade in ivory until 2028.
