Portland Diocese Settles With Sex Abuse Victims

Law360, New York (December 11, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- The first of a slew of Roman Catholic dioceses to run for cover under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in recent years has reached a settlement with some 150 people who claim they suffered sexual abuse at the hands of priests.

The deal between the victims and the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Portland was announced by U.S. District Judge Michael Hogan on Monday at a news conference, although the terms of the settlement were not revealed.
