Chevron Jabs At Damages Expert In $27B Ecuador Suit

Law360, New York (February 9, 2010, 7:19 PM EST) -- Facing $27 billion in potential damages over vast pollution in the Amazon rain forest, Chevron Corp. has again attacked the integrity of the case in an Ecuadorean court, contending the expert responsible for the damages estimate is motivated by self-interest.

Taking another swipe Tuesday at the proposed $27 billion damages, Chevron said Richard Cabrera, the author of the damages report, should be removed from the proceeding because he runs an environmental remediation company and stands to profit from the massive cleanup of the Lago Agrio region,...
