Senate Majority Leader Slams ABA Judicial Ratings

Law360, New York (February 12, 2010, 1:17 PM EST) -- Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., has taken a shot at the American Bar Association's system for rating federal judicial nominees, arguing that the qualification standards are hindering professional diversity on the bench by penalizing candidates without prior judicial experience.

Reid slammed the ABA's judicial rating process during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing Thursday, where he appeared on behalf of Gloria M. Navarro, who has been nominated to fill a vacancy on the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada.
