US, Canada Ink Government Procurement Pact

Law360, New York (February 12, 2010, 5:52 PM EST) -- Easing tensions over the Buy American provisions of the 2009 federal stimulus package, the U.S. and Canada have inked an agreement granting each other unprecedented access to government procurement programs.

U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk signed the government procurement pact Friday, providing the U.S. permanent access to elusive Canadian provincial and territorial procurement contracts while Canadian companies are free to compete for such work in the 37 states already covered by the World Trade Organization Government Procurement Agreement.
