FTC Launches Inquiry Into Infant Formula Shortage

By Dave Simpson (May 24, 2022, 10:00 PM EDT) -- The Federal Trade Commission said Tuesday that it has launched an inquiry into the baby formula shortage and is seeking public comment to determine if any businesses are taking advantage of families and how concentration in the formula market might be contributing to the scarcity.

FTC Chair Lina M. Khan said the agency is monitoring and will continue to monitor the shortage, while noting that it can take steps to address any anti-competitive, unfair or deceptive acts or practices that are exacerbating the problems.
