Neurontin Suicide Case Survives Pfizer's Bid To Toss

Law360, New York (February 23, 2010, 4:10 PM EST) -- Pfizer Inc. has lost a bid to toss a suit brought by a widow who claims her husband's off-label use of the epilepsy drug Neurontin led to his suicide.

Judge Aleta A. Trauger of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee denied Pfizer's motion for summary judgment, saying that widow Ruth Smith laid out sufficient evidence linking Neurontin to her husband's death.

Smith sued Pfizer and partner company Warner-Lambert Co. in 2005 after her 79-year-old husband, Richard Smith, shot himself in the head....
