ASEAN Mulls Common Patent, Trademark System

Law360, New York (May 26, 2004, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is moving forward with plans for a common intellectual property framework, the Philippines said Wednesday.

The plans include an proposal to look into the possibility of creating a regional patent and trademark system, with inputs expected from all countries.

Intellectual property experts and trade officials from the 10-member association are slated to meet in Manila in August to discuss the plan, said Edu Manzano, chairman of the Philippines ' Optical Media Board, told local media.
