Senate Blocks Republican Bid To Halt DOI 'Land Grab'

Law360, New York (February 26, 2010, 4:00 PM EST) -- The U.S. Senate has defeated a measure from Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., that aimed to stop President Barack Obama from designating new national monuments and limiting energy and agricultural development on more than 10 million acres in Western U.S. states.

Senators voted 38-58 late Thursday to block consideration of the DeMint amendment, which required 67 votes to overcome a point of order and be added to the Senate amendment to H.R. 1299, the Travel Promotion Act.
