County Shielded From Retaliation Suit: Va. Court

Law360, New York (March 2, 2010, 4:07 PM EST) -- The Virginia Supreme Court has ruled that government entities in the state are immune from retaliatory discharge claims brought under the state's whistleblower law, affirming a lower court's dismissal of such a claim brought by a former employee of Goochland County.

Justice Barbara Milano Keenan said in an opinion issued Thursday that the suit, filed by former county employee David F. Ligon, was barred by the doctrine of sovereign immunity.
