Federal Insurance Programs Extended After Delay

Law360, New York (March 3, 2010, 2:10 PM EST) -- President Barack Obama has signed off on short-term extensions to federal unemployment, health and flood insurance programs, restoring benefits after delays in the U.S. Senate allowed the programs to expire Feb. 28.

Lawmakers reached a deal late Tuesday with Sen. Jim Bunning, R-Ky., to allow H.R. 4691, the Temporary Extension Act of 2010, to come to a vote, after which senators voted 78-19 to send the bill to the president, who quickly signed it into law Tuesday night.
