Transitions Resolves Claims Over Eyewear Deals

Law360, New York (March 3, 2010, 7:13 PM EST) -- Transitions Optical Inc., a manufacturer of eyeglass lenses that darken in sunlight, has reached a settlement with the Federal Trade Commission over allegations that it tried to use its leading position to coerce distributors into exclusive deals and shut competitors out of the market.

The FTC said Wednesday that Transitions, a joint venture between PPG Industries Inc. and Essilor International SA, has agreed to stop using allegedly anti-competitive practices to maintain a monopoly and hike up prices.
