GAO Issues Scathing Review Of FDA Probe Oversight

Law360, New York (March 4, 2010, 4:30 PM EST) -- The U.S. Government Accountability Office released a report Thursday documenting a number of shortcomings within the Food and Drug Administration’s investigation unit, citing a severe lack of oversight in how the agency handles its criminal and misconduct investigations.

The GAO found that the FDA maintained little oversight of the investigations conducted by its Office of Criminal Investigations and said the unit lacks the performance monitoring necessary for the agency to evaluate its success.
