RJR's Eclipse Cigarette Marketing Ruled Deceptive

Law360, New York (March 11, 2010, 6:35 PM EST) -- R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. ran afoul of Vermont's consumer protection statute and violated the terms of a 1998 settlement by making deceptive and misleading claims about the reduced health risks of its nontraditional Eclipse cigarettes, a state court judge has ruled.

Judge Dennis R. Pearson issued a decision Wednesday in the Vermont Superior Court, saying the state had established that R.J. Reynolds violated the state's Consumer Fraud Act.
