Utilities, Green Groups Back Robust Forest Offsets

Law360, New York (March 23, 2010, 3:02 PM EDT) -- A coalition of 31 power companies and environmental advocacy organizations has urged Congress to include strong incentives for promoting the use of farmland and forests to sequester carbon emissions as the U.S. Senate prepares to take up work on climate change legislation.

Major utilities including American Electric Power Co. Inc. and Duke Energy Corp. joined with green groups like the Sierra Club and the Environmental Defense Fund to tout land and forest sequestration as a cost-effective strategy to help American businesses meet federal carbon reduction goals...
